Analytical exposition is a text that elaborates the writer’s idea about the phenomenon surrounding. The other definition is that analytical exposition is a type of text that is included to argumentation text where contain the writer’s specific idea about the phenomena surrounding.

Its social function is to persuade the reader that the idea is important matter and to ensure the readers that topics presented are important to be discussed or get the attention by giving some arguments which support the topics. An exposition persuades a reader or listener by presenting one side of an argument. To make the persuasion stronger, the speaker or writer gives some arguments as the fundamental reasons why something is the case. By taking a point of view and justifying it, we aim to convince others to see only that side of an issue. Some expositions speculate as to what might be and persuade others as to what should be.

 This type of text can be found in scientific books, journals, magazines, newspaper articles, academic speech or lectures, research report etc. Analytical expositions are popular among science, academic community and educated people.

Generic structure of analytical exposition:

Ø  Thesis, introducing the topic and indicating the writer’s position. In thesis part, the writer introduces about the topics or main idea. Thesis is always in the first paragraph in Analytical Exposition text.

Ø  Argument 1, explaining the argument to support the writer’s position. In this part, the writer presents some arguments to support the main idea.

Ø  Argument 2, explaining the other arguments support the writer’s position more;

Ø  Reiteration, restating the writer’s position. This part is the closing of Analytical Exposition text. Reiteration restates the main idea in the first paragraph. Reiteration can be called as conclusion.

Language feature of analytical exposition:

Ø  Using relational process;

Ø  Using internal conjunction;

Ø  Using causal conjunction;

Ø  Using general nouns, e.g. car, pollution, etc;

Ø  Using abstract nouns, e.g. policy, etc;

Ø  Using technical verbs, e.g. species of animals, etc;

Ø  Using relating verbs, e.g. that is important, etc;

Ø  Using actions verbs, e.g. we must do, etc;

Ø  Using thinking verbs, e.g. some people believe, etc;

Ø  Using modal verbs, e.g. we must preserve, etc;

Ø  Using modal adverbs, e.g. certainly, surely, etc;

Ø  Using connectives, e.g. firstly, secondly, etc;

Ø  Using evaluative language, e.g. important, valuable, etc;

Ø  Using passive voice, e.g. are changed, etc;

Ø  Using simple present tense.

Examples of analytical exposition:

Conventionally, students need book, pen, eraser, drawing book, ruler and such other stuff. Additionally, in this multimedia era, students need more to reach their progressive development. Students need mobile keyboards to record every presented subject easily. Of course it will need more cost but it will deserve for its function. (Thesis)

First, modern schools tend to apply fast transferring knowledge because the school needs to catch the target of curriculum. Every subject will tend to be given in demonstrative method. Consequently students need extra media cover the subject. Since there is a laptop on every student’s desk, this method will help student to get better understanding. (Argument)

Secondly, finding an appropriate laptop is not difficult as it was. Recently there is an online shop which provides comprehensive information. The best is that the shop has service of online shopping. The students just need to browse that online shop, decide which computer or laptop they need, and then complete the transaction. After that the laptop will be delivered to the students’ houses. That is really easy and save time and money. (Argument)

From all of that, having mobile computer is absolutely useful for students who want to catch the best result for their study. Buying laptop online is advisable because it will cut the price. A. Read the following text carefully and answer the questions!

Is Playing Computer Dangerous for Healthiness?

It’s common to see people play computer. They use it for making task, playing games, or browsing something in internet. Most of people spend long time for playing computer. Even several people can play the computer whole day which could lead them to some diseases.

Facing the monitor for long time can create the tiredness for eyes. It will make people dizzy. Further effect, glasses will be the options, why? Because our sight becomes blur (abnormal).

Other effect is backache. It is sometimes too fun playing computer that makes people don’t realize their seat position. That’s why after playing whole day they will get backache.

It is obvious that too much time spent for playing computer can make eyes feel tired and lead people to get dizzy. Eyes also feel bored to face the monitor for long time. The wrong seat position can make people get backache which could disturb all activities we will do.

Recount text adalah sebuah text yang menceritakan kembali kejadian, peristiwa dan pengalaman seseorang di masa lalu atau yang sudah di lakukan.

Tujuan komunikatif adalah melaporkan peristiwa, kejadian dan pengalaman yang terjadi di waktu lampau dalam sebuah urutan secara kronologis untuk menghibur atau memberikan informasi kepada pembaca.

Didalam recaount text ada struktur-struktur batau generic structurenya yaitu:

·       Orientation: pengenalan tokoh, tempat dan waktu (who, where dan when).

·       Event: menceritakan peristiwa yang terjadi.

·       Re-orientation: ungkapan akhir cerita penulis atau orang yang menulis cerita tersebut.

Ciri-Ciri Recount Text


Memakai Past Tense. Misalkan we went to beach, I was happy, etc.
Memakai Conjunction dan Time Connectives untuk mengurutkan peristiwa atau kejadian. Misalnya and, but, the, aft
er that, etc.
Memakai Adverbs dan Adverbial Phrase untuk mengungkapkan tempat, waktu dan cara. Misalkan yesterday, at my house, slowly, etc.
Memakai Action Verbs
, contohnya:  went, slept, run, brought, etc.

 

·       Pengalaman (Personal) Recount Yaitu menceritakan tentang pengalaman pribadi penulis.

·       Kejadian dari teks recount yaitu suatu kegiatan yang tidak di rencanakan atau di prediksi (kapan dan dimana).

·       Peristiwa (event) dari teks recount yaitu suatu kegiatan yang akan di lakukan dan terencana (waktu dan tempat dapat di ketahui).

Topic is what the text is tell about.

Character (tokoh) is person who in the text.

Main idea is usually in the first paragraph and in general.

Supporting idea is usually in second, thirt....... paragraph and in detail.

Meaning is the value of the text, like: Moral message.

On Children's Day in 1999, a technology company treated more than 200 underprivileged children to a 'high-tech' experience. They were given training on information technology. The children had an enjoyable and educational experience that day. They were exposed to the new technology for the first time and they were very interested. 2.     Last month, my family took a camping trip to the mountain in Yogyakarta. It is Mount Merapi which is still an active volcano up to now. It is not far from my home town.

3.     At 10.00 O’clock we arrived there and the air was very cold.

4.     We could sit around it and sing until midnight.

5.     Every morning we went hiking and bicycling to warm our body. It was so cold. At night we built a fire. I had to keep the fire burning.
